Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two, the publisher of Rockstar Games, believes that AI won’t actually speed up the process of releasing GTA 6 or creating new games.
The gaming community has eagerly awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 for nearly a decade. While GTA 5 and GTA Online have been immensely successful, players are eager for new content as the old storyline has been revisited multiple times.
The release of GTA 6 has faced numerous delays over the years, including actor strikes, the global health crisis that forced remote work, and other typical setbacks.
Some GTA fans have speculated that the rise of AI could boost the production process, especially after rewatching the first trailer and noticing intriguing interior choices on buildings and road signs.
However, Strauss Zelnick from Take-Two believes that increased reliance on AI won’t accelerate game releases.
“The interactive entertainment business has been using AI for a long time,” he told CNBC. “Let me remind you that AI stands for artificial intelligence, which is an oxymoron. There is no such thing.
“While our tools do help us become more efficient, they’ll eventually become commoditized. Everyone will have access to the same tools. This is the history of toolsets. However, it means our creative people can focus on fewer mundane tasks and more on truly creative work.
“I would love to say that it will make things cheaper, quicker, better, or easier to create hits. I don’t think that’s the case,” he added.
Fans have theorized about AI’s role in the first trailer for NPCs and locations. They are eagerly anticipating the next installment in the iconic franchise, even scouring teaser photos for GTA Online updates to see if Rockstar is hiding anything.
Take-Two has reiterated that GTA 6 is on track for its scheduled 2025 release, but an exact release date has not been confirmed.
